Default Um, how can there not be a Pitino/U of L thread?

I won't even bother to post the shit that's been coming out for the last week or so.

Surely to Christ y'all have heard about what's been going down back home, with the prostitute publishing a book, pointing fingers at an administrative assistant and then admitting her underage daughters have been hooking as well.
    Wow.

    not disputing that.

what is disputable is whether he knew what was going on... whether Jurich has to shit-can him if they can prove that, whether McGee was acting rogue as the recruiting coordinator... and why President Ramsey issued a statement the other day fully supporting the AD and not saying a word about Pitino.

Hell of an interview by Terry Meiners, a "friend" of Pitino who has taken and given out (it has gone both ways since 2001) great on-court and off-court interviews for years. Meiners actually asked him if he should resign at the start of the interview the other day.

Pitino, to be fair, has not been hiding anywhere during this last week.

But am seriously shocked that y'all ain't even mentioned this shit in here, or even the GD forum. This is big news, regardless of the way you fuckers poo-pooed it with the last two posts.

Disagree, it'll be swept under the rug. Guarantee Pitino never got personally involved at that low of a level so they won't get him.

Its silly that people even care about whether the university is arranging for these kids to get laid by pros or their fellow students. It's just part of big D1 sports and it isn't hurting anyone.

Story's blowing up today. So ridiculous. I agree with Galt, this happens everywhere, some ho just came out and broke the story and now people have to act outraged.

Also, you see these girls? These dudes could have pulled better looking chicks for free.

My favorite paragraph from today's article

Powell insists her three daughters were all at least 18 the first time they were paid to have sex. The age of consent in Kentucky is 16.

Great discussion on The Herd. Spot on. Happens everywhere because recruiting is cut throat and there is so much at stake. Coaches know everything there is to know about incoming recruits. Their background, their needs, their personality, etc etc. It's not just a Louisville issue. Unfortunately Pitino is caught in the controversy.

one caller says the same things happen on Wall Street.

From KHOU.com (and other AP outlets, I'm sure):

University of Louisville President James Ramsey said Wednesday that he has not talked with Rick Pitino about the possibility of the coach resigning over allegations that a former basketball staffer hired escorts to dance for and have sex with players and recruits in the team dormitory.

After a meeting of the U of L Athletics Association's board of directors, Ramsey was asked about calls for Pitino to resign and if he's discussed that with the coach. "I don't know who's made those calls," Ramsey said, "but if they want to call me, they can do that."

Ramsey, who spoke to reporters for less than two minutes, said he had not watched ESPN's "Outside The Lines" report in which Katina Powell, an escort who alleges in a book that she and other women were paid by former U of L staffer Andre McGee, spoke on camera for the first time. That report also cited five unnamed former Louisville players or recruits who described some details of stripper parties similar to those alleged in Powell's book, "Breaking Cardinal Rules: Basketball and the Escort Queen."

"I didn't watch it. I didn't see it," Ramsey said. "There's an investigation taking place, and we're letting it play out, and I think that's the fair thing to do.

"The investigation is taking place right now, and it is moving forward as a joint investigation of the university. It's representative Chuck Smrt, who we hired, and the NCAA, and it'll play out in a fair way and a way to find what the real truth is and what the real answers are. That's what we want, and that's what we expect."

    From an SBNation story:

Perhaps what is the most concerning thing for Louisville and its fans is that the allegations did not secure any of the players that its claims to have occurred with. Antonio Blakeney, JaQuan Lyle, and Jordan Mickey are mentioned by name by Powell. None of the three signed with Louisville. Despite her, albeit, best efforts none of the prospects became Cardinals. The lack of production by this escort and her services is pure ignorance by those involved. Had she been a catalyst for signing multiple top prospects there may be a case for why it was effective to use her. BUT she did not even have the ability to help the program land the players she mentioned by name. That is just unabashed arrogance not only by her, but by the coach(es) involved.

Along with affirming Pitino's responsibility, the NCAA dismissed Louisville's argument that some of the infractions were lesser Level III infractions because of the amount of money involved.
"Put simply, arranging and funding sexual intercourse for a prospective student-athlete on an official visit is a severe violation, wholly inconsistent with NCAA principles, whether it's valued at $80 or $120,'' the response reads.
